The 5th PLATINA4Action Technology Transfer workshop for inland vessel owners and operators took place on 4 June 2026 at the Maritime Industry event in Gorinchem. Bringing together vessel owners, technology providers, policymakers and financiers, the workshop provided an overview of practical solutions and support mechanisms that can accelerate the transition towards a more sustainable inland fleet. Topics included practical experiences with existing technologies, national and European funding opportunities, and innovative technologies for reducing emissions.
As part of the programme, Daan Siebenheller from EICB – Expertise and Innovation Centre for Inland Navigation presented the SYNERGETICS Decision Support Tool and the Shipowners Handbook, which help vessel owners identify suitable greening solutions and understand the steps required to implement them.

A highlight of the event was the symbolic handover of the SYNERGETICS Handbook to Willy Kreusch of Koninklijke Binnenvaart Nederland (KBN), underlining the project’s commitment to supporting the inland navigation community with practical guidance for the energy transition.
The workshop once again demonstrated the importance of collaboration between European projects, industry stakeholders and policymakers. By sharing knowledge and promoting practical tools, SYNERGETICS continues to contribute to the uptake of sustainable retrofit solutions and to the transition towards zero-emission inland waterway transport.
